Although dormant accounts are filed directly with Companies House, you are still required to inform HMRC of your company's dormant status. Otherwise, you will run the risk of HMRC requesting a Corporation Tax filing.
Informing HMRC of the dormant status can be carried out online via this link.
Before you start, you’ll need:
- Your company’s name
- Your 10-digit Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) - find your UTR if you do not know it
- The date your company stopped trading (if it began trading)
Other ways to tell HMRC
If you cannot use the online service, you can tell HMRC your company’s dormant over the phone or by post.
